Inequality: A New Zealand crisis” was launched recently in Wellington and Auckland and covers the wide range of negative outcomes associated with high levels of income and wealth inequality. As well as providing a framework for discussing the issues, the book, edited by Wellington journalist Max Rashbrooke, addresses the issues as they play out in education, health, housing, the justice system and our democracy. There are chapters by experts in their fields as well as numerous shorter pieces including a diverse set of interviews and personal testimonies of experiences with, and responses to, inequality. The book also has numerous ideas about how the negative outcomes caused by inequality can be addressed. Associated with the launch of the book London Scholl of Economics Professor Robert Wade was in New Zealand for a speaking tour and the publisher Bridget Williams Books contains a recording of the lecture and interviews with Robert as well as with Max. Max is taking the Inequality message nationwide and the Inequality website contains further information about the tour.
